Bluebird Cottage Inn

We got exactly the room we expected, and it worked well for us. The front desk staff were fantastic, accommodating, and made sure guests were looked after. I also liked that DVDs were available to borrow for free and watch in the room.

We’ve been back to BCI a few times since it’s near BSA Camp Emerson, where my sons have Scout activities. The owner is great, and the cabins and units have a cool feel. There are plenty of different styles to choose from, and the property is about a mile from DT Idyllwild. On our latest visit, we stayed in Bluebird Cabin during the last week of Dec 2025, when it rained heavily. The cabin was cozy and had a nice porch, but the jet tub really needs to go. It only fits a small toddler, lol. The recurring problems are hard to ignore. I mentioned the bathroom dispensers to the front desk last time, and looking at the Google and trip advisor comments, it seems to keep happening. This was our third stay in a row with an empty shampoo dispenser and a broken soap dispenser. I’ve also stayed in several BCI places, and I’m convinced the beds across the cottages need replacing. The carpet is worn and matted down too, and should be swapped for LVP flooring. Tony, I know these suggestions cost money, but at some point the basic carpet and beds need to be replaced.

For my son’s wedding weekend, we booked an extra cabin for one night, and the front desk kindly moved us to a larger cabin right beside ours. The AC also handled the 90-degree weekend without any trouble, and the kitchen appliances seemed to work, though we hardly used the kitchen. We had the largest cabin, which sleeps 8. The beds were hard, which my husband liked but I didn’t, and the shower was too short for half my family. There were ants on the bathroom floor. The place feels rustic and old, with cabins that haven’t been updated much. Some carpet was torn. It was a decent stay, but anyone hoping for updated luxury should look elsewhere.

The price, location, and cabin feel were all a plus, and it’s a lovely way to enjoy beautiful Idylwild. The cabin was quite clean overall, with a gas fireplace and wood ceilings that helped brighten the space. A cafe and restaurant are an easy walk away, and the coffee and food were excellent. The place is cozy, but there are some things that need attention. Dove smelled a bit musty, and I think the carpet in that room should be removed. Both units had mattresses that need replacing. I slept like a rock the first night because I was exhausted, but the second night felt like sleeping on a rock 🤣. The shower’s shampoo dispenser was empty, though I had brought my own, so it didn’t bother me. The bathroom could use new caulk too. A bit more care and elbow grease could fix a lot of this. My friend found a dog bone under the bed in her unit, which cracked us up since this wonderful place welcomes pets. ❤️
