I checked in, then left an hour later for a Hilton. The place was dirty and poorly maintained. My room smelled like dog urine, and the carpets were old and disgusting. I saw rooms with window fans and door mats as I headed up to the third level, and the filthy stairs didn’t give me much confidence either. People on the first level were smoking marijuana, and the smell was coming out of the rooms. I told the manager what was going on, but they didn’t seem to care. I asked to move because of the odor in my room, and they said nothing else was available. I left right away. This is one of the raunchiest places I’ve ever been to, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, especially families with children.

We had to leave within an hour and a half of arriving because of the sanitation issues and concern for our toddler’s safety. We appreciate the service we received, but had to find somewhere else to stay. My 16 month old later contracted hand foot and mouth disease, and this place was the likely cause. The first room we were given at Mission View Inn & Suites San Diego, CA smelled like a freshly smoked cigarette carton, despite the non-smoking policy. We asked for another room and got one without trouble, but it was worse. The floors were dirty and poorly maintained, so we couldn’t put our toddler down. The tables and dressers were sticky, the table wobbled, and my wife’s hand stuck to it when she went to lift it away. There was hair on the bed and in the shower, and all sorts of things on the walls and ceiling, along with other issues.

Lindsey was a real bright spot after I missed my flight. I’d stayed somewhere fancy in La Jolla that was nice, but came here because of her genuine kindness and hospitality. Santiago also helped me the next morning, and the staff really do seem to care. I saw the comments about dirty rooms and can’t say when that person stayed, but my room was immaculate. It’s an older establishment, which I don’t mind. Plenty of the fanciest, most charismatic independent hotels in this country are older too. Old and dirty aren’t the same thing, and my room was very clean.

The location is great, and I was greeted right away by a professional, courteous customer service representative. I’d have liked to get directions to the gym, ice machine, and other amenities when I checked in. Also, my room wasn’t cleaned the next day. At other inns and suites where I’ve stayed, I’ve always had fresh towels and a cleaned room. That needs improvement.

The location is one of the few bright spots, since it’s not far from the main attractions. I liked the king room layout with its separate living room, but the room itself was a letdown. I didn’t try the pool or gym, though I think a gym was mentioned. I also had a hard time believing the hotel was sold out when the parking lot was only half full. It has three floors, but I was put on the second when I wanted the highest; when I asked to switch, I was told it was fully booked. Room 206 had damp patches in the carpet and smelled like dog. The windows wouldn’t open until maintenance came to open them. The maintenance man said it was a pet friendly hotel, which made me wonder how clean the carpet was. It should be replaced. The AC units didn’t work, so the room stayed warm. The pillows and mattress were uncomfortable, and the couches were stained and looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in years. Not a pleasant stay. I might’ve rated it higher if I hadn’t ended up in this room.
