Indy Speedway Inn

The room wasn’t clean when we arrived. My partner went to Johnny to ask for our money back, and Johnny told us to leave or he’d call the police. He came into our room and got in my face, telling us to go and saying I’d get a refund. I never did. When I called on the day the charge appeared in my bank account, Johnny answered. Before I could say anything, he told me the company gets its money and that he was just a homeless housekeeper allowed to stay in a room.

Our room door was already wide open when we got there, and the room was filthy, with blood stains on the sink. The door wouldn’t lock. Johnny also had a dog that lunged at my brother and me. When we first met Johnny, he seemed confused about what he was doing and couldn’t find the reservation we’d made a month earlier. He took my brother’s ID and credit card and photocopied both. I’ve seen places copy the ID of the person booking, but never a credit card.

I came inside only to ask about room rates. The desk clerk asked for my ID and credit card, and I handed them over. He charged me $162 right away without saying the price or how many people could stay. He gave me a receipt and key card, then started going back to his room. I told him I was only inquiring and hadn’t been given any information, and he’d just charged my card. I didn’t want a $162 room, so he took back the key card and started leaving the office again. I asked how to reverse the charge because I hadn’t signed anything agreeing to it. Hotels usually have you sign for a room after showing the charge. He said to dispute it through my bank and call them Monday if that didn’t work. I called Monday and asked for management. He hung up on me, then said he was the manager. I never entered the room or stayed at the hotel. The clerk had told me he was a homeless person getting a free room to charge cards and hand out room keys.

It’s functional and fine if you only need a place to sleep. There are fast food places nearby, and it’s close to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. We were the only guests during our two-day stay. The manager was friendly and accommodating, even bringing a brand-new coffee maker to my parents’ room when they didn’t have one. He has a dog that can be a little intimidating.
