Mauna Loa Motel

I noticed there weren't any bedside tables or reading lamps. Still, the newly redone bathroom was very nice, and the place met my two main needs: it was clean and felt safe.

The price is right, and Neils Lounge is an easy walk away. But the room was rough. There was hair and staining on the bedding, which badly needed a thorough cleaning, and the shower door leaked.

The clean design details stood out, with hardwood floors and a nicely renovated bathroom. The heating and air-conditioning unit worked well, too. But the sheets were dirty and the towels were worn thin, which took away from the stay. It was also hard to communicate since the owner or manager isn't fluent in English.

During Coachella weekend, my friends and I found the rooms spacious and clean, with a very large bed. The owners were kind and accommodating, and made us feel safe and at home. The grounds were lovely, with roses and plumerias in full bloom. I'd definitely come back.
