The pool looked really well cared for, though I didn’t get a chance to use it. We had plenty of hot water in both the bathroom and kitchen, and the rooms felt light, airy, and comfortable. The rooms, hallway, and laundry facility were clean, and even the hallway smelled clean. Everyone, from the front desk and housekeeping to maintenance, was smiling whenever I saw them and kept checking if my husband or I needed anything. They were all incredibly friendly and helpful. The gentleman who owns or runs this place could teach seminars for other hotels on how to do things right. I’ve stayed in probably 100 hotels over the last few years, and this one really impressed me. You can tell the staff take pride in their work. It made for a perfect beach getaway.

The rooms were clean and nice, and the staff were great and super helpful. It’s a nice budget option, though the towels and sheets are on the cheaper side, but not unreasonably so. There’s a small HEB, restaurants, and a park just down the road, which is convenient. Finding the place in the dark was a little tricky since the entrance isn’t brightly lit, but it wasn’t hard to figure out.

It’s fine otherwise, and nice enough, but I’d rather have a proper stove than the two-burner countertop one.

The only good part this time was Heather working the desk overnight. I’ve stayed here several times over the years because my wife has family in the area, and never had a problem before. This visit was different. I don’t know if management changed, but the place seems to be going downhill. We were on the second floor, and stepping off the elevator we got hit by a strong spicy smell, maybe curry. We sprayed the room, then had to rush to change for a viewing and rosary. When we got back, the odor was still there. I explained it at the front desk and asked to move rooms. At first I was told there were none, but after I pleaded, Heather said she had one left and offered it. The AC wasn’t very cold, but at least that room didn’t smell, so I took it. A cockroach scattered when we went in. There was mold and peeling paint on the walls, and the pipes creaked when water was running. This was my first bad experience here, but it’s noticeably changed since my last stay, and I wouldn’t risk another visit. There are plenty of other places around, so try somewhere else. Too bad a photo can’t capture the smell.
