The Woods Inn

I’ve stayed here many times over the years and it used to be consistently well kept. It’s a charming, relaxing place, with a couple of restaurants on site and just a short walk to village shops, groceries, and plenty of places to eat and drink. This past year, though, it’s gone downhill. I hope the new owners can bring back its former appearance.

The waitress was very nice, but the meal was a total failure. The chef is gone, and now the dining room only serves bar food. My steak was so tough I couldn’t chew it. My companion ordered a chicken and noodle dish, but the pasta was swimming in undrained water and the chicken had been microwaved until it was hard.

Our anniversary weekend was ruined by what happened in Room 203. The room was outdated and dirty, and the Lakeview balcony was obscured by several pine trees. It looked as if it hadn’t been swept in years, and I felt unsafe standing on it. After about an hour, we found bedbugs everywhere, even crawling on the dresser. We gathered our things right away. They gave us plastic bags and said they’d refund the room, then offered to move us, but I refused because I didn’t want to risk carrying bugs elsewhere. The next morning I called and asked whether they would reimburse about $300 for things I had to throw out. They rudely said I was being rude and hung up. I called again and left a message. She told me I could Google complaints to find out what I wanted, and kept calling me rude while not letting me get a word in. They also said I should have taken my things to the dry cleaners. I have photos with the location. I definitely don’t recommend this place.

We stayed four nights and never got clean towels. We also tried the dining porch, waited an hour just to get our tonic water order, then finally got up and left. It seems like they’re trying to run the place with very few staff. Sad to see the decline, since we stayed here several years ago and loved it.
