Hampton Inn Iowa City/University Area

The staff were helpful and friendly, and breakfast was good. The room was clean and getting to U of I was easy. I couldn't get the TV to work well: there was no streaming, and the on-screen guide was stuck showing early morning times. For one night, though, it was fine.

The hotel staff were kind and attentive throughout our stay, from the front desk to the breakfast team. One morning the hospital called early and we had to rush out, so the front desk packed muffins and fruit for us to take in the car. That kind of small gesture meant a lot. We came from out of state for an emergency stay and surgery at U of I hospital for one of my parents, staying 9/14/25 -9/17/25. The location was convenient, and the hotel was clean and well kept. We also appreciated the hospital rate, which helped with the unexpected travel costs. The whole visit was perfect, and the team really understood hospitality. We'll likely be back for follow-up appointments, and I won't bother looking at other hotels. I'll stay here whenever you're available. Thank you all for your kindness.

The Hampton Inn at 4 Sturgis Corner Drive was a very nice hotel, and the employees were lovely. The booking process, though, was atrocious. My wife was a patient at University of Iowa Hospitals, so I called what seemed like a local number and got sent to a call center in India. They didn't know where Iowa was or recognize the hospital. After about ten minutes on hold, they quoted me $30 more than the price on a U o I hotel sheet. I hung up and called again, got India again, and this time was told there were no rooms. On the third call I finally reached the front desk, where a very nice person booked us at the rate on the hospital sheet. I'd rate the booking process 0 out of 100 if I hadn't eventually reached the desk. The hotel itself and its employees get 4.5 out of 5.

The clerk was pleasant when we checked in, but the room and the response to our complaints were disgusting. I booked through Expedia because going directly through the hotel cost twice as much for a football game weekend, and other places were full or astronomically priced. I chose this one based on its rating and price. I don't understand how anyone gave this dumpster five stars. On the way to the room, I saw huge dirty, stained, filthy spots on the carpets. Inside, I was sick, enraged, and disgusted. The furniture was stained and ripped, the curtains and fixtures were broken, the lampshades were stained, and there were stains in the shower, among other things (see pictures). We called for a manager, and the clerk who checked us in came up with an attitude. After we showed her everything and asked for a better room, she said, “I can’t promise you that any other room would be better than this one”! She said they were renovating. If no room is better, they should close the place until they can carry the “Hilton” brand properly. Hilton/Hampton should be appalled to have it open and charging guests for subpar rooms. She also said we couldn't get a full or partial refund because we booked through a third party. Expedia reimbursed us 20% after I contacted them. Still unacceptable.
