After driving 2.5 hours on a whim, we found the motel I’d seen online advertising one room with two queen beds for $89. The office had a kiosk and no real check-in atmosphere; someone spoke to me through it, but I could barely understand him. Once I chose a room, he quoted $145. When I asked about the $89 listing, he denied it was shown and said no hotel nearby charged that little, adding that I should take it if I found one. A one-queen room was $124, so I took it without seeing it. He said the room code was on the receipt. My glasses were still in the car, but he didn’t care that I couldn’t read it. There was a small space heater on a shelf and no ice bucket. We left and went to another place down the street, paid $141 for two queens, and got breakfast in the morning. We’d already lost the $124 at the first place.

Rooms were quiet and clean, and the hosts and staff were friendly. It’s right by the highway, with convenient parking in front of your room, and check-in and checkout were easy. I’d stay again.

I’m writing this at 2 a.m. because I can’t sleep on the hardest pillows ever. The room was barely adequate, the toilet was tiny, and it’s hot with no way to control the heat. There’s no TV unless you use your own streaming service. The kiosk check-in was friendly enough, but I’d rather deal with someone there in person. I hope the shower is okay. I won’t be back.

The owners were very friendly, the rooms were clean, and the price was good. Check-in was a breeze. Just a heads-up: some websites still say there’s a continental breakfast, but that’s no longer offered. There’s coffee and tea in the lobby, plus coffee makers in the rooms. The owner’s been updating the listings as he finds them, though we all know that can be difficult.

It’s an older place, but it was clean, quiet, and comfortable, with everything we needed. The room had the expected amenities, including a fridge, microwave, and coffee maker, and we weren’t disturbed by other rooms. We’d stay again if we had the chance.
