StudioRes by Marriott Jacksonville Orange Park

The service was excellent and the place was super clean. We spent four weeks here while our house was being renovated, and everyone was so friendly we felt like we were staying with family. We made our room cozy by decorating it and adding a few little things, and we love it here. I’m staying for a week with my family of three, and the simple, clean room has enough space for us. The front desk staff are polite and accommodating, so I’d absolutely come back. The military/government rate is great for extended stays. It’s near Walmart, Sam’s Club, Costco, lots of restaurants and stores, with plenty within walking distance and the highway close by. There’s also a navy base less than 10 miles away, useful for people allowed to use the commissary and such. As a retired army veteran and travel agent, I’d definitely recommend it to military friends or clients needing a long-term stay. I hope Marriott keeps the property up instead of letting it run down like many other extended stay places.

The beds and facilities are modern, attractive, and really comfortable. I heard the hotel is less than three months old. But noise from upstairs footsteps and chairs being moved is extremely loud, enough to make the floors seem very thin or possibly temporary. I mentioned it to the hotel staff. I don’t know if anything can be done, but wanted future guests to know.

At 11:30 p.m. I’m writing this while my teenager sleeps in the backseat of our rental car because we have nowhere to go. We flew in from DC tonight, picked up the car, and reached the hotel around 5 p.m. to check in, only to be told our reservation had been canceled because “something happened on the 4th floor.” There was no warning, explanation, or attempt to help us find somewhere else. I don’t know this city, it’s a holiday weekend with events everywhere, and no hotels were available. The vague reason doesn’t convince me; I can’t help wondering if they resold our room at a higher rate. This is incredibly stressful and unacceptable. I’ve never had a hotel do anything like this. Whether it was bad management or something else, never again.
