Hampton Inn & Suites Jamestown, ND

The pool area was like walking through a mud pit, and the king bed had tiny, awful pillows. The place had just been remodeled, yet there were cracks in the walls and trim that was already peeling. I usually wouldn’t complain, but this was a first.

The price jumped from $143 a night to $413, and I know hotels raise rates when something is happening in town, but that’s crazy. The stay wasn’t close to being worth that much. There were cups and coffee in the room but no coffee maker. When I asked the front desk, I got, “That’s a maintenance issue. Not sure what to tell ya.” At that price, I’d also expect the room to be cleaned during the stay.

Breakfast was tasteless, and nobody seemed to be watching or tending the buffet. This was the second bad Hampton Inn experience on our trip, and their standards seem to have slipped. We’ll change our preferred hotel list. At 6:00 a.m. we also found there was no coffee maker in the room. The lobby coffee urn was empty when I asked about it, and the clerk took it back to the kitchen. Fifteen minutes later it still wasn’t there, until I spoke with a woman coming out of the kitchen and she replaced it. The parking lot made the hotel look far from full, so I wondered why we were put in a room without a coffee maker.

We arrived just after 3pm on 5/28, but the room wasn’t ready. After checking in, we were told to wait while they confirmed it was ready. About 20 minutes later, we checked again and it looked like the room had been ready already, though nobody had told us. The manager then started the check-in process over. When I said we’d already done it, she insisted she hadn’t, and I pointed out the computer should show it. She called me rude and difficult, then our reservation was canceled and we were told to leave. She seemed to be on a power trip and didn’t have real customer service experience. We won’t stop there again. There was a high school playoff in town, so no other hotels nearby had rooms; we ended up driving home, about four more hours.
