Mountain Lake Lodge

The staff were about as kind and helpful as any we’ve come across at a place we’ve stayed. The lodge is dated, but that’s part of its appeal. My family enjoyed the Dirty Dancing history, scavenger hunt, and informational walking tour, even though I’m not much of a fan myself. We’d like to return when the pool is open in summer or during peak fall colors. Even in mid-November, the place was beautiful.

We came with friends for a fun, snowy visit. From the time we arrived until we left, the staff made us feel welcome and were fantastic. Joanna, Chelsea, and Victor deserve a special shout-out. Our room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the food was delicious. We’ll be back!

That working 1930s fireplace gave our Christmas Eve dinner a nostalgic, almost magical feel. The staff at Mountain Lake Lodge and Harvest were warm, attentive, and clearly cared about making the evening special. There were four of us, and we had fresh mixed green salads and homemade soups, then grilled red snapper over risotto and 21-day aged steaks with mashed potatoes and asparagus. We also enjoyed cocktails before dinner, Virginia wines, and custom espresso. Mountain Lake Lodge and Harvest made for a very memorable dinner.

The cabin, The Dorland, was comfortable and clean, and it’s peaceful here. With no cell service, it’s easy to unplug. It’s sad to see that the Lake has dried up. We had a good visit overall, and the staff were nice and helpful. We ate at Harvest and the Tavern Bar, and the food was decent, though the food spots could use better staffing. We ate on site three times, and each time the wait for simple orders was extremely long despite the servers trying their best. Several things we ordered were unavailable, too. One night the bartender was alone with more than 18 people, and we waited over an hour for our food. Aside from those waits, we had a great experience.
