Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Louisville North

The staff we dealt with were all very nice, and they aren’t part of why I’m giving this one star. We stayed the first night, then moved to a different hotel for the next three nights and got a cheaper, much cleaner stay. Best decision ever. The outside was in rough shape and the lobby felt unwelcoming, but I gave it a chance, hoping the room would at least be clean. It wasn’t. Torn carpet, a dirty couch, broken doors and doorways, windows that needed replacing, dirty sheets, a facecloth left on the nightstand, a gross bathroom, and not enough towels. The hallway smelled like smoke mixed with burnt pork. I’ve never been so disappointed in a hotel. I should’ve turned around when we walked in.

The room itself was comfortable and quiet, and the front desk was very helpful. But housekeeping and customer service left a lot to be desired. Over three days my room was cleaned only once. There was old food in the fridge when I arrived; I called to have it removed, but nobody came, and housekeeping left it there later too. They replaced the towels but didn’t leave more toilet paper. I’m a big Wyndham fan, but this location is lacking.

We paid $1400 for three nights during the Kentucky Derby, which already felt ridiculous, and the room was filthy. There was old food in the cupboard, crushed fries in the carpet, mold in the bathroom, hair on the supposedly clean towels and in the bed, wrappers in the drawers, and water between the supposedly clean dishes. The toilet overflowed three times. The place needs to be condemned. We asked kindly for cleaning the next morning and requested it three more times, but nobody cleaned the room before we arrived or at any point during our stay. We asked to speak with the manager and were ignored. It was beyond ridiculous and disgusting. I’m calling the health department. Don’t book here. I wouldn’t let an animal sleep there. Zero stars, and the place should be knocked down.

The breakfast wasn’t top notch, though the people serving it were helpful and worked hard. I think they were given poor ingredients to work with. We had lots of space, the room was clean and comfortable, and they even provided nice soaps. Hotel soap can dry out my hair and skin, so I appreciated that. All in all, a great experience.
