East Hampton

Living by the river and having convenient PATH access are real pluses, but the ongoing problems have made day-to-day life worse. One of the elevators is often out of service for months, and this has been going on for nearly two years. Even after repairs, they keep breaking down, and residents have reportedly been stuck more than once. The laundry setup is unreliable too. One machine has been broken for months, and the other rarely works properly. I’m also concerned about safety after residents witnessed inappropriate public behavior nearby, including indecent exposure. With costs rising, I expect real improvements in safety and property management.

The views are great, and maintenance usually fixes things on time. There aren’t any other amenities in the building as of now. Management has started building a pool out front, but it’s still unclear whether East Hampton residents will get free or subsidized access. The work has also caused a lot of driveway blockage and noise.

I moved out at the end of 2024 after living here for two years. The upstairs views were beautiful and getting to the PATH was easy, but I had serious safety concerns. One elevator kept failing, and once it started dropping fast from the 8th floor. I honestly thought I was going to die. The building is tilted enough that wheeled furniture rolls in one direction, and roaches came in through the pipes. During winter, cold air constantly came through the door and windows, which sent my electricity bill soaring. Be ready to pay hundreds a month for electricity alone. I also had trouble with Brian, a doorman who flat out refused to take my packages and claimed the system had broken down. Complaints to management didn’t seem to help. I wondered whether racism was involved because he was always nice to the white guys, while Asian residents were mistreated.

It was freezing outside in January when our apartment heater stopped working properly, and the place got uncomfortably cold. We filed a maintenance request without knowing how soon anyone would come. Richie responded quickly and fixed it right away. He was efficient, professional, and responsive, especially given the timing. We’re so grateful our apartment is warm again. Richie’s service was excellent, and I highly recommend him.
