Waterfront Hotel and Marina

Waterfront hotel and marina are a good deal for the money if you just want a clean, quiet, basic room. Everything was clean and smelled good. Gary, the owner, helped carry my things into roomy, accessible room 104. The higher toilet, shower chair, and grab bars made it easy to get around. I was there April 3th thru the 6th, and the very firm bed worked great for my bad back. After business meetings, I could lie down and relax. No need for fancy extras.

The room felt unsanitary, the hotel seemed run down, and the atmosphere was bad from the moment we entered. After our five-hour drive from Minnesota, my boyfriend and I found a dead fly in the bed, a large dead boxelder bug in the bathroom, and a dead ladybug in the main living area. The shower curtain was tucked into the tub, apparently because its bottom was brown and discolored. The bed, linens, and overall setting were uncomfortable, too. When the front desk manager heard about the bugs and that we were leaving, he told my boyfriend he doubted there were bugs, but said we could use the room however we wanted since we had it until the next day. We rushed to pack because we felt so uncomfortable and left our pillows behind. When we returned at 9:40AM, before checkout, the maid was already in the room "cleaning," even though the manager had said we had until 11AM. I wouldn't recommend this place. The customer service was horrible.

The Fox River view and location were really nice. The pillows were horrible, so bring your own. Apart from that, it was an okay place, especially on the river side.

The front desk was very nice, and checking in after hours was easy once I called ahead for instructions. The shower pressure was strong, almost too much, and the water got very hot. Heat and AC worked amazingly well. I didn't find any smells except from the well water, and there were no signs of bugs beyond the occasional spider. I stayed four nights over a holiday. The place has a lot of potential, and with the right upkeep and management its prime location could support $150 a night. But the photos and signs are misleading. The bed and pillows were extremely hard, like sleeping on the floor, and that's why I wouldn't stay again. Maybe I would if the bed were softer. The carpet was old and stained, there was water damage on the ceiling, and the walls, ceiling, baseboards, and bathtub had cheap-looking repairs. There were no amenities, or at least very few.
