Red Roof Inn Chicago - Joliet

My flight was delayed by more than 17 hours because of a winter storm, so I called Red Roof Inn Chicago – Joliet before 3:00 PM to explain I couldn't make it that night and ask to cancel. The delay was completely beyond my control. They wouldn't waive the cancellation fee or offer any help. The General Manager came across as especially dismissive and inflexible. I found the whole response deeply disappointing, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone hoping for basic courtesy when travel plans go wrong.

We planned to stay two nights, but left after the first. The room was disgusting, and the supposedly smoke-free place reeked of weed and cigarettes. There was also unusual activity below our room that seemed likely to be illicit. I felt safer thinking about sleeping at the nearest rest area. Whether you're traveling with kids or not, I'd avoid this place.

I ended up having a peaceful night's sleep here, and the bed and pillows were really comfortable. The room was in the same building as the office, which may have helped. No pests at all, including bedbugs, and the heat worked great, which I appreciated coming from Florida. The bathroom was clean, the hot water was excellent, and the little fridge and microwave were handy. I was nervous after reading all the bad reviews. My company had booked it after I flew into Chicago O'Hare from Florida, and I spent the whole hour-long drive arguing with them that I wouldn't stay. At check-in, I asked the woman at the desk to make sure I got a decent room, and she did. My company paid around 40 bucks, I think. Hotels in that area seemed pricier, and there's a little restaurant next door too. For what I needed, it had everything for a comfortable stay.

I booked two nights but left first thing in the morning after the first one. There was filth under the beds and behind the TV stand and fridge, and I was awake all night hearing mice in the walls and ceiling. I didn't tell them I was leaving because the reviews made it seem like they don't refund people. Worst place I've stayed. Spend the extra money and go elsewhere. Stay away unless you're homeless.
