Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Joplin

The rooms have been improved, and I like the renovations. Breakfast was okay, though it could be a little better. The Wi-Fi kept signing me out and back in, which made it hard to work. Hopefully they get that fixed. Aside from that, I like the place.

There wasn’t even enough coffee for a cup, just warm water, and although hot water was offered there were no tea bags. Breakfast was awful, with cold eggs even though I was there right when it started at 6 a.m. There weren’t enough plates or many condiments. The room was short on basics too. The toilet paper roll was nearly empty with no spare, and there were no tissues.

I was disappointed I chose this place. The room was tiny, and after five minutes of running the shower, I still had no hot water. The “continental breakfast” was just coffee. They blamed the remodeling, but I don’t see why they couldn’t put out packaged pastries. It cost no less than the motels nearby. Wyndham is usually better in my experience. I’d pick somewhere else.

I’d never seen a bedbug before, but after taking pictures and checking them later, I realized I’d killed at least four in the bed that night. Earlier, I’d also seen a large cockroach climbing up the door and killed it. I told the front desk attendant, who didn’t respond. The bedbugs are disgusting and a health hazard. I called the front desk as soon as I found the first one, but they told me to wait until morning to speak to the manager. No one contacted me. I called again in the morning and asked at checkout, but the manager was unavailable and I was promised a callback that never came. When I called that evening, I was told I’d have to wait until Monday to discuss a refund, even though it was Friday. This was the worst hotel stay I’ve had. The pest problem and lack of urgency or accountability from management are unacceptable. I’ll never stay here again, and I strongly caution others against booking. I want a refund and will report it to the Joplin Public Health Department.
