Our favorite place to eat was the outdoor bar, Hale Mo’olelo. They had happy hour every day, good food at reasonable prices for a hotel, and service that was the best part. A domestic beer was $9, compared with $12 at the Hilton where we stayed. Sean, Joel, and Junior were friendly, engaged with guests, and had gotten to know us by the end of the trip. We spent four nights here on our honeymoon, and it was easily the highlight of the trip. We hadn't realized how lackluster our Oahu and Big Island hotels were until we arrived. A local told us some hotels, like the Westin, reinvested in their properties during covid when things were slow, and that made sense. The grounds are beautiful, and we appreciated direct beach access and adult-only pools and hot tubs. Our room was upgraded at check-in and seemed newly renovated and fresh. There were plenty of dining choices. We hope to come back. We had a fantastic experience.
We had a great view of the beach from our spacious, modern room in the Hōkūpa'a Tower. The pool was fantastic, with plenty of room to spread out, and the lobster roll sandwich we ordered for lunch by the pool was delicious. We had an incredible four nights here. The hotel had a fun mix of people of all ages, and all the staff were friendly and welcoming. Looking forward to our next visit!
The grounds are a lovely sight, with a gorgeous entrance lobby, waterfalls, flamingos, and huge koi fish. Keep an eye on the kids around the ponds, since there are no guardrails. The high-end spa, upscale food options, modern kids' arcade, and on-site Starbucks add plenty to do, and it's walkable to nearby attractions. This is an upscale place, so prices are high. Self-parking is available but expensive at $50 a day plus tax, and valet is expensive too. The pool works well for families and adults, and the beachfront has lots of sand and swimmable water. Staff throughout were extremely nice and helpful. Concierge staff can help arrange activities and share tips on lesser-known gems, such as running groups, free local attractions, and which beaches are better for swimming, snorkeling, or surfing. Whaler’s Village and Black Rock are walkable. Rooms are comfortable and well finished, though they could use more hooks for towels or wet swimsuits, and the hallways are noisy. I've stayed here a few times and am always happy with the accommodations.
We liked a lot about the hotel: the property is beautiful, rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the location beside Whalers Village and several great restaurants is hard to beat. The staff and housekeeping team were friendly, helpful, and welcoming throughout our stay. The problem was the noise. My wife is pregnant, and our only request was a quiet room. Instead, a large group on our floor partied late on multiple nights, with voices in the hall and doors slamming well past 1:00 am. I understand some hotel noise is normal, but this was excessive. When we called the front desk, it wasn't resolved and we felt dismissed rather than supported. I've stayed at well over 100 hotels and never had to complain about noise before, which was surprising at a property at this level. There's a lot to like here, so it was frustrating. I'd like to see the hotel enforce quiet hours better so guests looking for a relaxing stay can enjoy it.
The only trouble came near the end of our stay, when around 50 USC students arrived for the weekend. There was a lot of late-night noise, with yelling in the halls and doors slamming between 12am and 3am, which disrupted our sleep. They showed little consideration for other hotel guests. It would've helped if the hotel had put the group on one floor or had security monitor the hallways during the late hours. We had a great stay at the Westin Kā‘anapali otherwise. The property is beautiful and right beside Whalers Village, making it easy to walk to shops and restaurants. Staff were warm, welcoming, and consistently friendly. We especially appreciated the Platinum breakfast benefit, a great perk and a nice start to each morning.
