The birds sang by the dozens in the morning and evening, with even a little frog croaking. The setting is on a lush hill above the Pacific, with papaya and coconut palms out front and red, pink, and white habiscus. It's centrally located for activities and beaches. Our host, Johnny, was full of information about beaches.

We spent seven days at the Kona guest house and had a wonderful stay. Our room was the Dolphin room at the top of the stairs, with lovely sunsets and a nice evening breeze. The house sits at the end of a culdesac, surrounded by beautiful foliage, with no noisy traffic. I loved waking up to the chirping birds, and there's a great walking path down the hill for getting your steps in before the day's adventures. John was so friendly and fun to talk to, and told us about the Island and places to visit. Spirit the guest house kitty was adorable. Thank you, John.

It's rustic outdoor living, so there are bugs, and you cook and eat outside. We like that kind of thing, and this place was wonderful for us. The view alone is worth it, and Uncle Spirit and John made our three-night trip lovely. We're already looking forward to coming back during whale season. Big Mahalo to the owners for sharing your lovely home!

Johnny is helpful and really wants you to have a good hawaii experience. We stayed in the Dolphin room, which has plenty of space for two, and the bed was comfortable. The rooms could use some updating and are still a work in progress. After reading other reviews I was a bit unsure, but once I arrived knowing it was rustic, I had a wonderful trip. It's quiet, simple, and a gem for what we were looking for. If you want a hotel, motel, or resort kind of stay, this isn't the place for you. I wouldn't suggest it for a trip with children. It may be a diamond in the rough, but it shined for us.

The upstairs room has a million dollar view, and the room was clean and everything was in order. It does feel like it hasn't changed much in many years and could use a revamp. My guess is that if John renovated the rooms, he'd need to raise the rates, which are probably among the most competitive around. John's hospitality deserves five stars. He's a very nice guy, gives helpful tips on places to go, things to do, and food to try. We loved that he picked fresh papaya in the morning and brought it to our window.
