Hawaii's Hidden Hideaway Bed & Breakfast

The neighborhood is quiet, and having our own parking spot is handy. There’s a little beach nearby, along with the Pillbox Hike, and Janice is happy to suggest places to eat or hikes if you ask. We’ve stayed three times and plan to come back. It feels like home away from home, only better.

We were in an exterior suite this time, and it was excellent, just like on our previous three stays. Janice is a lovely host and leaves a special mix of breakfast goodies for several days. Lanikai Beach is beautiful and only a 7-10 minute walk away, with plenty of beach accessories provided. The outdoor shower is a nice feature. The bed was supportive, and the fan above it helped keep the night cool. There’s an AC unit in each room too, so the temperature was just right.

We liked the pretty, peaceful residential area and the patio, and it was great having beach gear available. Lanikai, which I think is the island’s best beach, is an easy walk away. Our suite was clean, but we found worms on the floor on two different days, in separate spots, even though we kept things tidy. The decor felt very dated, and the beds were uncomfortable. We’d planned to spend our last evening as a family in the hot tub, but it seemed to be switched off. We called and emailed the host and never heard back.

The room smelled of mildew as soon as we walked in. The old carpet meant I wore flip flops the whole time, and the bed was lumpy. The bedding, upholstered chair, and TV were old too. The shower barely had any water pressure, and the place feels like it needs a major renovation. Some packaged food left out had expired, and we only found out the hot tub was broken after arriving. We avoided spending time in the room and only slept there. I’d hoped for somewhere cozy and welcoming for a few days, but after a vacation that was supposed to be relaxing, we left disappointed and underwhelmed. It wasn’t the aloha vibe we’d pictured. I hate leaving a negative review, and there’s more I could say.
