Redrock Country Inn

We arrived late and left early while trying to cover a lot of ground on a long road trip. For a midweek night, the motel was a simple, clean stay and a very reasonable price for the value. It wasn’t luxurious.

For one night on the way to Zion, it was worth five stars given the price. The beds were comfortable, Kanab is a lovely little town, and the room cost less than dinner. The shower got hot enough, though not fully hot. The bathroom floor looked like either bare concrete or an odd design choice, the sink was in the closet, and there was a mild odor that wasn’t pleasant but didn’t smell like air freshener. If I were staying several days, I might choose somewhere else.

We stayed after hiking the Grand Canyon specifically so we could shower, but there was no hot water at any point during our one-night stay. Around 7 p.m. I told the front desk clerk, who said it was down, being worked on, and should be back within an hour. Otherwise I would have changed hotels. Expedia asked for a refund for me, but the hotel refused. The room also had very little light and few outlets. Its only real plus was being close to the Grand Canyon. We won’t stay here again.

The bed was fairly comfortable, but the rooms were so dark that it was hard to tell how clean they were. There wasn’t a nightstand on both sides, which was inconvenient since I keep my phone, water, and glasses beside me. The curtains had holes and wouldn’t stay shut, so I used hair clips I’d brought to stop people from seeing in. The bathroom window had no curtain, which made me uncomfortable. The TV wouldn’t work with the remote and said to ask the front desk for another one. We gave up and went without TV. The $20 nightly pet fee seems absurd. I only noticed it at the bottom of the paper after checking in. My husband told the desk we had a dog, but the person there said he couldn’t charge us until another guy returned and asked us to come back in 15 minutes. We did, waited another half hour, and the other guy still wasn’t back. We were tired and said we were going to bed after trying to pay, and the desk person told us not to worry about it. Then the other guy finally came back and knocked on our door after we’d gone to bed to ask us to come pay. We tried to cooperate, and it seemed incredibly rude and unprofessional to get us out of bed for the fee.
