We’re from England and hadn’t stayed in an American motel before, so I can’t say whether this is typical. It was cheap, and I suppose you get what you pay for. I wouldn’t stay here again. The bed was comfortable and the linen was clean, but that was about all we liked. The AC was so loud we couldn’t sleep with it on. We couldn’t find the controls, and reception showed us the switch outside. Paint on the electrical sockets made our plug keep falling out, so we had to prop it up. There was no bin, and both the toilet paper and tissues ran out with no spare rolls. The drawers in the old chest wouldn’t open. The toilet lino was worn, the carpet had seen better days, and the whole room looked like it hadn’t been updated since it was built.

Sun-n-Sand Motel in Kanab Utah is an old-school roadside place right in the heart of beautiful Kanab. It’s clean and friendly, with restaurants within walking distance. The owner was caring and welcoming, and there’s safe parking for motorcycles.

The main concern was the door. It didn’t fit the frame properly, wouldn’t really lock, and there was no hotel or motel style lock on it. We weren’t too worried since we brought our own protection, LOL, but I can see how it could be a safety issue. It’s a real retro gem with plenty of charm, even though it’s a little worn. For the price, we didn’t mind. The woman who checked us in was so nice and clearly cares about the place. That showed in the clean beds and linens, the well-kept parking lot, and the tidy office and coffee area. Buildings get old.

If you want somewhere to crash and feel like one of Sinatra’s roadies, this is the spot. It’s old-fashioned, so don’t expect fancy, but the location is great, the people are great, and the price is right. Highly recommend. GOOD VI BES

We got the last room, and I was glad there were two beds because I wasn’t comfortable sleeping in the worse one. The room had stains and an odor, needed vacuuming, and I kept waking up to the TV turned off, maybe because it was on a timer. We could hear everything outside and in the next room. The shower head was absurdly low and felt unusable, and the faucet dripped. There was a space heater and a fan, which is useful if the weather isn’t too hot or cold, since I don’t think you can adjust the room temperature. The place was really rundown.
