Aston Islander on the Beach

We had a wonderful stay, and the grounds were kept up beautifully. Even though it’s right by the coconut marketplace, the place still felt peaceful, like a little slice of paradise. Our oceanfront room faced east, so watching the sunrise each morning was stunning and calm. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and we liked having the poolside bar and ocean access after days spent exploring. The only hassle was parking: the lot is small, and when we got back after 9:00pm some nights, finding a space was difficult.

The office staff were great and very helpful. I also have to admit, I loved the roosters, even though most people complain about them. There are great places to eat and the Coconut market right outside, plus a perfect beach view and amazing sunrises. This was my first trip to Hawaii, and the Aston worked out perfectly. The rooms could use updating, but I had no complaints overall. Heads up, there is a KAREN, though.

The landscaping is the most incredible part of this property. There are orchids, sugarcane, coconut and banana trees, and all kinds of flowers. It’s also right across the parking lot from The Coconut Marketplace, with lots of free activities, a general store with great food and coffee, and shops for gifts to take home to friends and family. The sidewalk along the beach is lovely for a morning or evening stroll, and chairs by the tree line give you a place to watch the sunrise. There are grills if you want to cook one night. We had a beachfront first-floor room for most of our stay, then moved to a second-floor beach-view room after our airline canceled our flights. Peggy at the front desk was so helpful arranging one more night at the last minute. The service at Aston really went above and beyond. My one complaint is the beds weren’t super comfortable, though I’m a mattress snob, so take that with a grain of salt.

We were so disappointed. We had booked an Oceanfront room, but a week before arrival the resort emailed to say construction meant that room was no longer available. Then, with less than a week to go, they canceled our reservation completely and moved us to a neighboring property that will cost us hundreds of dollars more.
