Molokai Vacation Properties – Wavecrest

Wavecrest is quiet, and we were very happy there. Our condo was charming, clean, and well stocked. The pool and the views were great. The laundry takes credit cards; I thought it was in the unit from the ad, but it was just two steps outside the front door, so no big deal. I loved being able to cook. There's a cute black sand beach by the pool that we named Pepper Beach. It has rocks, though I think you could swim there. Ghost Crabs make holes each night, then scurry around where you can watch them. There's always a breeze, and although it's windy, that makes the humidity easier to handle. It didn't feel muggy after the initial shock of coming from Colorado's dry mountain air. The place is far down the east side of the island. Nothing is very close, though nothing is very far either. You can't walk to lunch or coffee, so plan to drive 25 minutes to town or make your own. There are lots of tropical birds, and the mountain views are gorgeous too.

I rented a condo through VRBO for a month in March 2022. The association keeps the lush grounds in good shape. There are three buildings with 48 condos in each. The pool is refreshing, overlooks the ocean, and has views of Maui to the east and Lanai to the west. If you're here between December and March, you'll see whales. The reef and sheltered water in this area are where about 75% of Hawaii's whales spend time with their calves. There are only a few lounge chairs at the pool, which I think may be due to COVID restrictions. The covered pool area has windows that block the trade winds, plus a book library, tables, and chairs. It also has gas grills, a refrigerator, a sink, and a soda machine. There are dogs on the neighboring property that bark and howl most of the night. Roosters start crowing to one another and claiming their territory by 4 a.m., sometimes right outside your window. Some units have dogs too, and I saw a cat with a bell and collar. The neighboring beach is privately owned, but residents walk there and use it to launch kayaks and stand-up paddle boards. It's shallow, reef-covered waterfront, not a swimming beach. People walked a long way out and still didn't get more than about knee deep. Surf is dangerous when the wind is high. There's no nightlife, and quiet time runs from 9 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. I found the quiet refreshing. The drive to the east end is beautiful. Bring a picnic for Halawa Bay. You need to book a private tour to visit the falls, since much of the area is privately owned.

The resort is gorgeous and I'd highly recommend it for a quick vacation. There were too many spiders, though.

The pool was a nice extra, and the views are lovely, whether you’re catching the sunrise or looking toward West Maui after dark. The apartments sit among beautiful gardens.
