The buildings are attractive and the setting by the sea looks lovely, but the beach was dirty and swimming wasn't possible. The restaurant was closed, and there didn't seem to be any staff around. Rooms are small, though the grounds are nice. I was disappointed because I had limited time and hoped to enjoy more of the on-site amenities.
The staff were kind and happy to share stories about local life or suggest places to see if you asked. The gift shop also had quite a few reasonably priced things. I came for work and was lucky to stay a few days; now I'm already thinking about bringing my wife back. Molokai is laid-back and down to earth compared with Oahu or Maui, with no productions or tour buses everywhere. Chickens roam around, and the roosters can start up at 5 a.m. If you're a light sleeper, the AC makes useful white noise. You might spot a spider or bug in the bathroom, so be prepared for that. Our beds were comfortable and the rooms had outdoor porches. The restaurant was one of the best places I found to eat: good food and live music, though it's only open for dinner. I wished there were somewhere to set a laptop or backpack, like a small desk or cabinet. There weren't breakfast options either; even fruit or granola bars at the front desk would've been nice. I'd definitely come back.
The grounds were well kept, the views and sunsets were lovely, and the restaurant was excellent. The location is conveniently close to town. The staff, especially Ellen at the front desk, were fantastic and helpful. The room was clean, but dated and had some bugs. Prices are steep, probably because it's the only hotel in town. The manager and an afternoon receptionist made the stay much worse. We asked for just a few minutes' grace at checkout, but were charged for being five minutes late. Checkout was listed as 10 a.m., and we checked out at reception at 10:05. I understand hotels have policies, but at $400 a night including taxes and fees, I expected a little flexibility. The manager was rude and condescending, which was shocking from someone responsible for making tourists feel welcome. The way we were spoken to showed a real lack of basic customer service. That left a bitter taste in an otherwise beautiful trip. Moloka’i is stunning and its residents were genuinely warm and welcoming, but I'd save the money and look at an Airbnb or VRBO elsewhere.
We had dinner at a table right by the water, with live music from a local singer and guitarist who were really good. The food was fresh and good, drinks were good too, and the service was good. This is one of the few nice dinner spots on the island, and may be the best choice if you're looking for a nicer restaurant in Molokai.
We loved staying here. Our room had an incredible ocean view, and we saw lots of sea turtles. The hotel chickens were fun to watch, and everyone was so nice. The restaurant was great too. In the room, the shower was great and the AC worked incredibly well. We'd highly recommend it.
