We took a day trip to local cliffs about 30 minutes away on October 12, 2025. Our family of four were beginners, ages 15, 19, 52, and 53, and we didn't climb on the property. Don was a veteran guide, professional, accommodating, and incredibly helpful. We hadn't realized he was apparently legendary in climbing, so we felt lucky to have his experience. It made a big difference. The lodge looks like a nice, rustic, secluded place, though we didn't stay there. We'd book again without hesitation.

Will took me up Mt Colden by the Trap Dike, and the whole wilderness trip was great. His experience, knowledge, and clear communication made it feel seamless. He’s a terrific guide and a great guy.

I’ve kept going back to Rock and River, five climbs since August 2024, after first meeting them for a summer Trap Dike ascent. Ed was friendly and made booking easy, then paired me with local guide Will Roth. Will knows his stuff, brings a really positive attitude, and is just fun to spend hours in the mountains with. We’ve climbed together on later trips too, and he keeps finding outings that are both interesting and challenging. I’m Canadian, and I know a lot of us feel wary about traveling south of the border right now. I can say the people at Rock and River are good folks, and I still feel good doing business with them.

We’ve been staying with Rock & River for years. The breakfasts are delicious, the rooms are clean, and the kids are always happy to play with the dogs. We’ve come with the kids just to hike and also booked Ed’s guides for top-rope and multi-pitch ice climbs, skiing, winter mountaineering, and rock climbing. Every guide experience has been great. Ed runs a solid operation, and I recommend Rock & River without hesitation.

The breakfast spread was a great start before a full day outdoors, and there are ideas for novices like us as well as expert guides. Chad took my daughters rock climbing, and he was professional and knowledgeable. We had an excellent time and made great memories, so we’ll be back. Rock and River Lodge sits in a pristine spot in Keene, with welcoming, knowledgeable staff. Our room was comfortable and well appointed, and the quiet made for a good night’s sleep. There seemed to be adventures for everyone, whether you’re just starting out or already an expert. Thanks to the staff for a wonderful stay.
