Sweet Spot Stay - Tikis and Treetops

It’s quiet here, aside from the coqui frogs and the occasional mango landing on the roof. I stayed for over a month and loved it. The place is comfortable, peaceful, safe, nicely decorated, and has what you need for a short or long visit. Michael (the owner) and Micky Lee (the on-site property manager) were thoughtful, welcoming, and attentive whenever I was in touch. Micky often shared fruit from the land and local tips and places to see. If you’ll arrive after dark, download directions from the airport first, since there are no streetlights or cell service. Once you’re there, the WiFi works fine. You’ll need a rental car to explore the island and get food. I’d happily book again and am grateful for my stay. Mahalo.

The outdoor shower was one of the best we’ve ever had, and the open house has a great ceiling fan to move the air around. We loved being close to nature and enjoying the Hawaiian sun. We’ve been around the island a lot, and this was our fifth trip, usually split between the Kona and Hilo sides since they’re so different. The WiFi worked really well, which mattered because there’s zero cell service in the area, and Michael and his crew were easy to reach for recommendations and pointers on where to find more information. We loved MeowMeow, and our 9-month-old thought the duck wandering around the property, whom we called Doug the Duck, was fun to watch. We’ll stay here again on our next trip. It’s off grid, which we both enjoy, but do your research and understand what that means before booking.

We loved staying at Tiki's and Treetops/Sweet Spot. It’s peaceful, far enough from town to escape the bustle but still a good distance for getting there. The beach is only a few minutes away on foot and is amazing. The cabin runs on solar power and water catchment, and the outdoor shower was a nice extra. We had morning tea and evening wine on the swing, then fell asleep to nature sounds, mostly frogs. Meow meow, the resident kitty, made it even sweeter by joining us on the deck for cuddles and rubs. A great place to stay on the big island.

It was easy to feel at home in the space Michael created, and my partner and I could fully unwind. We especially liked that it’s off grid, while the internet still worked perfectly well enough for me to video chat from the property. The outdoor showers were a favorite, such a good feeling to shower surrounded by nature. We’d get up early to meditate and listen as the frogs gave way to the birds. The nature was wonderful, Kehena is within walking distance, and the neighborhood felt safe and quiet. Great for getting away and connecting with Hawaii’s nature. I’d give it 10 stars if I could.
