Best Western Kendallville Inn

I was in the room less than five minutes before I was disgusted. It smelled of vape, the pillows were tiny and looked years old, and the bed didn't seem freshly made. Then a roach ran across the bathroom while I was sitting there. I crushed it and flushed it. I wouldn't stay anywhere with roaches because they multiply. I should've taken a picture, but I didn't think of that at the time. I told the front desk woman I couldn't stay and explained why. She asked if I'd photographed the roach. She said my card had already been charged and she couldn't change it because the booking was through Booking.com. I left within 15 minutes and called Booking.com, but they told me to contact the hotel manager. For five days I called and asked the desk to have the manager call me, leaving my number each time. I was told she was away at a conference. After I got home, I emailed and got a reply asking me to get in touch. I've called and emailed again and still haven't heard back. There's an $1,089 charge on my card for an eight-day stay, even though I left almost immediately. I found out the hotel is independently owned. It's in bad shape. Don't stay here unless you absolutely have to. I'll keep fighting the charge until this is resolved.

I work nights and was getting dressed and packing a little after 11 this morning when I lost track of time. I asked housekeeping for a few minutes. Less than five minutes later there was another tap at the door, then the person ran off. About 30 seconds after that, the front desk called me. I've never really left a hotel a bad review before, but I won't come back here. I was tired and probably not the usual cheerful morning person, but I was polite. I travel for work, not for fun or vacation, and just need a place to sleep. The way they handled this felt disrespectful to paying guests. I hope they learn to treat people staying there better.

The windows opened and had screens, so we could get fresh air, which is hard to find in hotels in the USA these days. The room was very clean and in excellent shape. Breakfast had good quality and a decent range for a US hotel, including eggs and sausage. Just a heads-up, there was no half-and-half for the coffee, so bring your own. It was a great deal for the price. The outdoor pool is tiny and chilly, but we really liked the hot tub beside it.

We had a wonderful three-night stay. The employees were really friendly, and the place was so clean and up to date. It's the cleanest, most modern hotel we've stayed in. Thank you!
