Candlewood Suites Kenedy by IHG

The free laundry downstairs was quite a challenge. Two of the four washers and one of the three dryers were out of order, and the line was long, which makes sense in a three-story hotel. There was no breakfast, though you could buy food downstairs, and the decent coffee was free 24/7. Walmart is a two-minute walk away. My room was spacious, with a kitchenette and a big bathroom. But the windows were screwed shut, it smelled a bit, and during my two weeks there nobody came to clean or change the towels even once. I was working 12-hour day shifts and didn't have the time or energy to complain.

One person at the desk was very helpful, and the room had a full kitchen. But the ice maker and dishwasher didn't work. I was there for over two weeks, and they only tried to clean once, using a shirt I'd left touching the bed as their reason not to clean. The hallway smelled like sour food the whole time. Until the place is brought up to a reasonable, livable condition, I wouldn't recommend staying here.

We'd stayed here in the last couple of years without any trouble, but this time the front desk experience was awful. The woman said she couldn't check us in because the account was in my grandfather's name instead of mine. We had the IHG card with us, but that clearly didn't matter to her. This had never caused a problem at this hotel or anywhere else before. When we tried to talk it through, she canceled our reservation outright. We weren't even given a chance to ask if there was a way to fix it or book a room and sort it out another day. We got no respect at all. A bad day doesn't justify treating people the way we were treated, and I wouldn't recommend staying here if you expect basic respect.

The coffee was better than at other hotels I've stayed at. They also had beer, modela and Miller lite, for happy hour on Monday and Tuesday, but no non-alcoholic drinks were offered then. There wasn't breakfast, despite what the booking site said. The shower and bathroom weren't clean, with lots of hair around. The showerhead was severely lacking, and not something I'd want even in a guest bathroom.
