The staff were the best part of our stay. Everyone we dealt with was friendly and helpful, and I really appreciated that. We skipped breakfast, so I can't speak to it. The place wasn't as bad as the reviews had led me to fear, and it seemed like they'd made a lot of progress in a few weeks after things were apparently rough in early October. We booked at the last minute, and those reviews had me expecting a damp, roach-filled motel. The lobby was clean, the hallways smelled fine thanks to the automatic scent machines, and the AC worked. The mattress was great, too. The hotel needs updating, but regular upkeep and better housekeeping seem like the bigger need. The bedding and furniture were clean, though the floor hadn't been vacuumed well. There were rust marks by the tub overflow and bad caulking, toothpaste buildup around the faucet handles, and water left in the ice bucket from the previous guest with a new bag simply tucked under the lid. The carpets are old, but that wasn't what bothered me. We couldn't use the patio armchairs because they had no seat cushions.

The late check-in was frustrating, but the staff made the wait easier and we'd come back. The hotel was full for the Taylor Swift concert, and they were short on housekeepers. We didn't get into our room until after 3:45 PM. Miss Summer at the front desk stored our bags when we arrived early, then, when we came back and the room still wasn't ready, offered us a free snack from the little shop. The front desk staff were great. The short housekeeper and Summer were my two favorite people there.

I paid $474 for the weekend of Taylor Swifts Era tour, and at that price I expected better. I could understand the condition if the room had cost around $100 or less. The hall smelled nice and the staff were friendly, but the hotel needs TLC and some updates. When we booked, it was still part of the Hilton brand. Afterward we were told it was no longer a Hilton, and I can see why. There was a big clump of hair on the floor, apparently left after someone cleaned out a brush. The sink drained poorly and the faucets were crusty. The caulk along the tub needed replacing, and the bathroom lights were missing two covers. The tub looked a little crusty, so I skipped the shower and went straight home.

Being next to the Pontchartrain center was perfect for the Mardi Gras Ball I attended. The desk staff did their best to help us, but that was the only good part of the stay. Our first room had mold and mildew throughout. The entry door took a lot of effort to close, the closet doors wouldn't open, and the bathroom door only opened halfway. The replacement room was somewhat better, though it still smelled musty and had dirty floors. The hotel badly needs renovation. The manager said there are structural issues that keep the doors from opening and closing properly.

I won't be coming back. After my stay, I contacted the manager because it was frightening how close the room seemed to be to caving in. All he offered was a percentage off a future stay. A future stay? No chance. At check-in, the man at the desk charged the wrong card on my account and couldn't work out how to correct it. Then I was assigned a room that was literally caving in, and the next room was the same after I asked for a change. The fridge didn't work, the room phone was out, and the whole hotel smelled disgusting. Even the coffee was putrid. Worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Do NOT stay here!
