What pushed me to write was the front desk calling at 10:22 PM to challenge the 3 I gave the room in a text survey. I was tired, it was late, and the room seemed good enough for one night, so I didn't want to move. On the phone, the clerk was belligerent. I explained the smoke smell and maintenance problems, but I was trying to sleep. In the morning, he said he'd made the call and asked again why I disliked the room. He dismissed the issues and didn't seem very sorry, though he did apologize for calling so late. I won't stay here again and can't recommend it. This was my second visit, two years after an earlier stay that was a little run down but about what I expected for the brand. This weekend was much worse. My non-smoking room reeked of cigarette smoke. Vinyl trim was pulling away from several spots on the walls, and the light fixture was missing part of the metal pole that secures its cord, leaving sharp edges exposed. Makeup was left in the vanity grooves, there were questionable patches of black mold in the bathroom, the floor felt sticky, and some corners had spider webs. The AC worked, but each cycle sounded like an airplane taking off and stayed extremely loud. I should have taken more pictures, but I did get three.
After 14 hours on the road, we just wanted to sleep. If I hadn't been so exhausted, I would have canceled and gone anywhere else. Room 110 was the most disgusting hotel room I've ever stayed in, even after some awful past rooms. The pool was closed, too. Almost nothing worked: the TV had dangling, disconnected wires, the alarm clock was dead, and the refrigerator didn't work, though its back got very hot. An extension plug had scorch marks, a fire hazard for electronics that didn't even work. The cheap laminate floor was buckling and coming apart, with lots of end joints poorly filled with caulk. There were pink stains on the bedding. The sink was cracked and wouldn't drain, the shower curtain had black dirt on it, and there was no tub stopper. The desk chair had what I can only call spooge marks. I've never felt a need to contact a hotel's corporate office before, but I will this time. Charging a pet deposit for a room that couldn't be made worse by any amount of urine or damage should be a crime. I'll update this if they respond. Stay anywhere else, or sleep under a bridge if you have to. Please don't let them put you in room 110. I'll NEVER stay at a Red Roof Inn again.
When we booked, we were quoted 140 for one night and told the room was premium. We asked for two smoking beds and had a small dog. They also said we'd get a gift, which we chose as a 20 donation to an animal foundation, though I seriously doubt that donation happens. At check-in, they added a 50 security deposit that hadn't been disclosed when we reserved. We were lied to from the start. Here's video of our premium room.
Check your bank account carefully if you pay by card here. The young Indian girl with long hair ran my card at 7:40 pm on the night I stayed, then it was charged again at 3 pm the next day, when I was long gone. I hadn't authorized more than one charge. When I called, she denied running it twice, but my bank confirmed both transactions. I'd go to the hotel next door instead.
The air conditioning worked really well, and the water pressure was good, though the water was barely warm. There was a lot of noise until around midnight, then it quieted down. The bed was just squeaky springs.
