Towneplace Suites By Marriott Seattle Southcenter

We arrived at 10 pm exhausted after traveling from Montana, and the room had a strong, musky ammonia smell like pee as soon as we walked in. We hadn’t realized it was a pet-friendly hotel, which is fine, but it didn’t seem to have been cleaned up well after pets. The smell was so strong it was giving me a headache. I bought carpet spray, but it didn’t help. The carpets need replacing or a vinegar cleaning. There was dirt and dead bugs in almost every corner, plus yellow pee or coffee stains on the sheets and comforter. The place just wasn’t very clean or well kept, though we didn’t find bed bugs. There was also lots of yelling and cars revving in the parking lot on a Wednesday night. The front desk staff were quick and very nice, but we had to leave at 5 am, so complaining didn’t seem worth the hassle. Very disappointing stay.

The check-in attendant was awesome and let us into our room in the morning, which we really appreciated after a red-eye and only about two hours of sleep. The room was clean, and our standards are high, though the couch had heavy stains. We just covered it with a blanket instead of raising it with staff, but it could use upholstery steaming. Don’t expect new rooms, but they’re modern enough, comfortable, and serviceable, in line with other Marriott TPS from the same era. There was plenty of hot water, breakfast had plenty of options, and the coffee was actually good, which isn’t usual at hotels. Towels didn’t have much of a fresh-laundry scent, so perhaps they use scent-free detergent. Everyone we met on staff was welcoming and helpful. Great stay, and we’d come back.

Housekeeping kept pressuring us to leave every five minutes, starting an hour before checkout. We’d booked the hot tub, but it was out of service during our stay, and there was an unexpected parking fee that hotels nearby don’t charge.

That room should be the very last one they give out. We were right beside a busy road, and a compressor next to the room kept kicking on through the night. They offered to move us on day two, but we’d already unpacked and settled in, so moving everything would’ve been a huge hassle. My husband has premium status with Marriott, and we checked in mid-afternoon. The room we got was awful.
