After dozens of stays over the years, I’ve finally given up and now happily stay elsewhere on my monthly trips to town. Management acts like they’re the only game in town, but they aren’t. There were ongoing basics, too. Hot water was hit or miss, and the drains often left me standing in water during a shower. Once I was given a poorly cleaned room with unchanged sheets, though they did move me to another room. Another time, the room smelled so strongly of chemicals that I couldn’t stay. The window was already open when I arrived, and the desk clerk agreed it was “unacceptable” and said they wouldn’t stay there either. They had no other room, but charged me for two nights after telling me I wouldn’t be charged. I eventually stopped trying to get reimbursed because the hassle wasn’t worth it. The worst billing issue was being charged on my incidental card for somebody else’s stay while I wasn’t even in Ketchikan. I did get the money back, but only after months of asking and reminding them.

Very clean rooms with kitchenettes, and a good location by the store and two restaurants about a block away. It’s near all three ferries, ifa, the state ferry, and the airport ferry. Cleanest hotel in all of ketchikan.

The rooms are spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the place was generally clean. It’s also handy for the airport. Those were the only things I liked, and I’d stay here only as a last resort. Next time in Ketchikan, I’ll choose The Landing or Cape Fox. I was there for 10 days and never found the advertised “lounge/bar.” Maybe they mean the lobby snack bar, where the coffee was a day old. The website also promises a “full kitchen,” but all that meant was a full size fridge, an induction cook top, and a microwave. Nothing to cook with, though they did provide dish soap. What was I supposed to wash? Room service was nearly nonexistent. At check-in they said it would happen every fourth day, but I had to remind them on day five. When housekeeping finally came, they took out the trash and restocked toilet paper, but didn’t wipe anything down and made the bed sloppily. My co-worker never got service at all, and staff didn’t even say “Hello” or “Welcome” when he came into the hotel. They display a 9.2 Trip Advisor and Booking.com rating in the lobby, but after my stay I could see why they hadn’t received the same rating for the past four years. The hotel needs a lot of improvement, mostly from management.

Our shower was broken for the whole stay. We filmed it and showed the front desk, and the clerk said she’d tell management and address it. She claimed there were no spare rooms, so after traveling all day we couldn’t shower. The next morning we found out plenty of rooms were vacant, but she hadn’t moved us or fixed the problem. We were told management would contact us, but two days later there’d been no call and nothing had been resolved.

The front desk gentleman on the afternoon of Sept 1 was fantastic, polite and professional, and made me feel welcome. A big crowd arrived to check in all at once, and he handled it easily. It’s the newest hotel in town, and pricey, though so is everything else. The location is on the less touristy side and works well if you want to be near the marina or airport ferry. For restaurants, you’ll need to walk or take a cab.
