I’ve stayed here maybe five or six times in different kinds of rooms. The quirky Creek Street ones are still my favorites, but this June 2023 I was in one of the plain, tiny rooms above the cafe. I was a little disappointed, especially when I spotted the complimentary earplugs on the nightstand. Turns out the bed and pillows were so comfortable I didn’t need them. I did use the box fan from the closet, and slept 10 hours the first night, then eight hours each of the next two. Maybe I was tired, but the room was simple and really comfortable. They even replenished the coffee creamers and York Peppermint Patty mints. And the cafe is freaking delicious. I ate my way through almost half the menu. I hear the chef is from Lebanon, and he’s clearly skilled and creative. Love this place, I’ll be back next year.

The cafe had a friendly, relaxed feel, good food, and prompt service. There weren’t many seats, but we found a table quickly. It’s centrally located on a Main Street with street parking, and an easy walk from the harbour where the cruise ships dock. That evening, three people were playing live guitar and violin. One was an elderly gentleman whose joyful expression and twinkle in his eyes as he played guitar really stayed with me. God bless him.

We’re in Ketchikan every few months and always make time for the Cafe’s changing weekend brunch. Great staff, high quality, and a really creative menu. If Korean Street Toast is on it, get it. It’s amazing. We hope to move there soon.

Everything’s made from scratch, and the specials use whatever’s fresh and local. There are vegan and vegetarian choices every time. The NY menu ranges from world cuisine to classics like fish and chips, chowder, and burgers, with weekly changing specials too. Great coffee drinks, a nice wine selection, and beers on tap, including some Alaska brews. It’s one of my regular brunch and dinner spots. I love the Friday live music. My favorites are the pork belly sandwich, lamb burger with fig, roasted veggie salad, salmon cakes, kebabs plate, and hummus plate.

The New York Cafe and The New York Hotel have been separate businesses for at least 15 years, but since most people seem to review The New York Cafe here, I’m adding my review too. It has the best food in town, with friendly service and a welcoming atmosphere. The food is locally sourced, cooked to order, creative, fresh, and tasty. There are lots of delicious vegan and vegetarian choices, along with fantastic seafood. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Highly recommend.
