The Baranof Lodge

The staff handled a crowd of people affected by a missed flight with patience and clear communication. They were nice to us, too. The location is a real draw, right downtown and walkable to stores, the harbor, raptor center, restaurants, library, and more. Our last-minute room was expensive, but the beds were comfortable and it seemed clean. Construction right outside was a bit annoying, though for us the location was worth it.

It’s handy for picking up things nearby, and the location is good. In summer there’s a little block party around the roundabout in the afternoons. The place has what you need.

As a University of Alaska researcher and member of an international entity, I value service in the way guests are treated. At Baranof Lodge, the staff and community showed a courtesy and professionalism that made me feel at ease. From help with my room to making coffee late at night the way I like it, they made the place feel like home. I’d be glad to stay again for future conferences and research trips, and would recommend it to colleagues around the world. Kudos.

The location was good, and the ride back to the airport was quick and on time. Getting picked up was another story: I couldn’t reach the shuttle, so I walked more than 30 minutes. Staff seemed annoyed and uninterested, though I did get a room. The soap in my bathroom had clearly been opened and used. Its box was beat up, the stamp worn down, and there was a bit of hair on the back. I get being eco-conscious, but that was disgusting. It’s a place to sleep, but don’t expect a great stay.
