Heron House Court - Adult Only

Roman was charming, kind, and very accommodating. We asked for an extra blanket and he brought two. He also gave us helpful tips on where to find Cuban Coffee, Tylenol, and restaurants. Our room was clean and pretty, and we enjoyed the great breakfast and excellent coffee. Lovely place to stay, and we're looking forward to going back soon.

The staff were great and the location worked well, but this place needs attention from management to make it more presentable. The room needed repairs: the toilet took several flushes, sink water took a long time to warm up, and some doors and frames needed paint. There was only one wastebasket, in the bathroom, and the pillows weren't good. For what we paid, these issues should be addressed. This was maybe our second or third visit to Key West.

The pool, quiet setting, and light breakfast were good, and we kept coming back partly because of a kind gentleman named Roman who works here. But that wasn't enough this time. Heron House Court is so worn that the price no longer feels justified. Our room door was extremely difficult to open throughout the stay, and just as hard to close and lock. The furniture was stained and tired, and the AC was so loud, 63 dB, that sleeping with it on was impossible. When we raised that, staff shrugged and said we'd get used to it. The sink was loose and nearly falling off. We reported it on arrival, but it took four days to fix, and the repair failed right away. On day two I found a cockroach. I reported it, but nothing was done during our stay. In general the hotel is very run down, and there are other places with better value for money. I'd rate the beds 3 on the scale from sinks through 0, average 5, lies on top of the mattress 10. Value for money gets a 1 on the scale from throwing money down the drain 0, break even 5, highest profit 10.

The friendly, personable staff and the quiet Old Town location were real positives. It's close to nice shops and restaurants, and Duval Street is an easy walk away. What held the stay back was the condition of the furnishings, which needed repair. The refrigerator had rust spots. More seriously, the toilet barely worked: after a flush, its tank could take an hour or longer to refill. Sink and shower pressure were fine. I reported the toilet, was met with indifference, and was eventually told someone would check it. Nobody ever did. Not being able to use the toilet when needed is unacceptable, not a small inconvenience.
