Keystone Boardwalk Inn and Suites

A nice little hotel in a great location. The shower has strong pressure, but the showerhead is set for someone well below average height. The lobby shuts from 10pm to 7am, and it'd be nice to have coffee available a bit earlier.

The staff were welcoming and really friendly. The dated room and small shower were okay as somewhere to rest after a long day of travel, though the walls are so thin I could clearly hear the neighbors late at night. It wasn't the worst stay, but it wasn't very clean either. For the price and proximity to attractions, it was just okay.

Keystone has loads of character, and the hotel is perfectly placed for the attractions. You can step out the front door onto the main street, with plenty of food places and bikes to look at. We spent 11 nights here during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally week and couldn't fault the stay. We were surprised by how quiet it was, especially during the rally. The room had everything we needed for a good night's kip. Gretchen checked us in and was fantastic. Maybe she's got a bit of British blood in her, because the banter was great. She even made handing over 1600 US dollars almost painless. When we mentioned we were going to Sioux Falls, she told us not to miss the falls at Sioux Falls, and we didn't. Gretchen, if you're reading this, I hope you did take up my offer about what we discussed on the phone.

Everything in the room worked well, including the fridge and great A/C, and the furniture was nice. It was very clean, too, but the beds were hard as rocks. There are no laundry facilities. Shops, restaurants, and several attractions are within walking distance, and Mt Rushmore is only a short drive away.
