Royal Inn Keystone

Suma is such a delight. I feel lucky to have met her, and I loved our evenings sitting outside, drinking tea and chatting. We stayed ten nights and felt welcome and at home. It’s a two star hotel that needs a lot of TLC, but it was comfortable and clean, and the staff were amazing. The pool was clean but very cold, and the hot tub was out of service. The location works perfectly for seeing many of the great Black Hills sights, and I’d stay again. After Rally Week ended, it got very peaceful, and we saw a lot of wildlife right on the property.

It was only about seven minutes to Mount Rushmore, and the area seemed very safe. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and there were lots of amenities I hadn’t expected. The pool looked nice, though we never used it. Breakfast was pretty good but a little limited, and was very nice for what we paid. We had a lovely time, the staff were incredibly friendly and kind, and it was great value. We’d definitely stay again.

The room had everything we needed and was very comfortable. It was quiet and set away from the busy part of town, which we really liked. The price was reasonable, and breakfast was better than most included hotel breakfasts I’ve had in the USA at a similar price. The staff were lovely and so helpful, almost like staying in a homestay.

The room and the rest of the place were dirty. We found dried blood on the walls, the sheets weren’t clean, the tub wouldn’t drain, the toilet kept running, and the electrical outlets didn’t work. We were told the pool had just been cleaned, but there was dirt all across its bottom. Other rooms apparently had no TVs or some of the amenities guests had paid for. We booked two nights but couldn’t stay longer than one. When we raised the problems, staff said it was too bad, that they’d look into them, and that they wouldn’t refund the unused night, while also saying customer satisfaction was their top priority. This place is a slumlord operation that wants your money for its lies and dirty rooms. The photo shows some of the many blood spots in our room. DO NOT STAY HERE!!
