The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort

The scenery was wonderful, and the hotel is beautiful with generally very nice amenities. We enjoyed our stay, though at this price I expected more from a top resort. With our suitcases, no one pointed us toward check-in, so we wandered around confused for a minute or two. We’d requested a king, but got a double queen room. Every EV charger was broken except one, and that one didn’t fit our rental, though the other stations would have. We had to drive to town hall to charge. A complimentary morning coffee bar would have been nice.

The property and location are so nice, but the service needs attention. I came with three boys under five, including a one-year-old. Check-in was late, and the crib we had requested well ahead of time and again at check-in wasn’t in the room. When it was finally ready, I was told no bellman was available for our luggage. I offered to push the cart myself, but was told that wasn’t allowed and I’d have to carry everything, while holding a screaming baby. I’ve stayed here multiple times and don’t know if I’ll return. There’s also just one indoor bar with four or five seats for the whole hotel. I’ve been to several “5 star” resorts, and this one doesn’t rank highly for me. The Breakers on Palm Beach and The Ritz on Amelia Island are both superior.

The grounds are lovely, and all the restaurants were great. Staff were accommodating and paid close attention to details. It felt like everyone wanted us to have a good experience from beginning to end. I’ve been to many resorts, and this is easily one of the best. Highly recommend.

We spent one night here while looking for a new beach spot to visit regularly. The setting and property by the beach are incredible, and the attention to detail shows in things like the substantial towels and robes and the turn-down service. Late at night, noise from the room next door or above kept us awake for about an hour. For such an expensive, high-end place, I’d expect thicker walls.
