Maui Banyan by Castle Resorts & Hotels

We booked T108A for our honeymoon expecting the listed kitchen and washer/dryer, but neither was there. We spent about three hours trying to sort things out or switch rooms, then had to go to a laundromat and pay about $35. Keep that in mind if you're staying here. The room didn't look like the photos, which was really disappointing. I later saw another review of this same room describing very similar issues with the photos, cleanliness, and missing amenities. The place felt dated and dusty when we arrived, and the lighting was dim and odd. It's on the ground floor with bushes outside, so it's dark unless you leave the curtains open. I left it cleaner than I found it, bought trash bags and paper plates, and left those behind along with boogie boards and pool noodles for whoever comes next, unless the owners remove them. We didn't end up using the plates. There was a strong “old person” smell. The walls are extremely thin, so we could hear the neighbors, including them fighting at one point. There was also a strong smoke smell even though it's supposed to be non-smoking. I don't know whether those neighbors live there or were visiting. The staff tried to help, but couldn't do much because the unit is privately owned. Maui Bayan doesn't actually own it. The private owner goes through Kamaole Sands, and perhaps they have a better way to get in touch with the owner, since the staff onsite couldn't reach them during our stay. If you've already booked and feel a little gipped like we did, remember it's just a room. It does the job, and Maui is beautiful, so you may not want to spend much time inside anyway. Still, it sucks to lose money and part of your day dealing with laundry and the room, or eating out more than you planned.
