TownePlace Suites by Marriott Outer Banks Kill Devil Hills

The room's small kitchenette was nice, and the shower got hot with good pressure. The beds, though, were kind of hard and you could feel the springs. Breakfast was very basic, and there wasn't even creamer for the coffee, just milk.

The location was handy for getting around OBX, close to the main roads, and one cleaning staff member went out of her way to help us. She either didn't speak English or had a hearing deficit, but she made the effort, which spoke volumes. Still, if this had been my first Marriott, it would've been my last. Don't pay extra for an "ocean view," it was a joke. The room furniture was uncomfortable and worn down to the frames. The bed gave me so much back pain that I slept on the loveseat, which was somehow more comfortable than the bed, even though it had the same frame issue. We were surprised to come back and find no room service during our stay. Breakfast was awful and had a poor selection. It looks nice, but I'd compare this place to a low-end hotel. It just doesn't cut the mustard.

For the winter price, this is a really nice hotel. The beach is an excellent distance away, and the staff were nice. Our room was clean, well equipped, and kept in good condition.

I strongly recommend against booking through this Marriott. I was traveling to the Outer Banks for a race that was canceled within two weeks of race day, through no fault of mine. Since I no longer needed that weekend night, I tried to cancel and get either a refund or a stay credit. I'd paid in advance at a discounted rate, but they wouldn't work with me on a refund, partial refund, or night credit. It was also hard to reach the right person, and I had to call several different numbers multiple times. To me, this feels like a predatory business model, taking payment and then hoping people cancel so they can increase their margin. I strongly discourage doing business with them.
