It was already late, so we stayed, but I would've gone elsewhere if I could. The second room we were shown had no working air conditioning. When I asked to move again, the receptionist complained that the first room was “perfect” and that she resented having to move us. I told her it was far from perfect. We'd booked a double bed room through Expedia at a set price. At check-in, the receptionist kept offering us a king room for extra, and I had to politely turn it down several times. It seemed like our booked room may have been given away, and I was appalled they were trying to charge us more when we had already reserved what we wanted. The floor in the first room was filthy. There were fingernail clippings by the nightstand and a pile of sand or something by the fridge. I should've paid more attention to the recent reviews. I saw four stars on Google and a good price, so thought we'd be fine. This is not a four-star motel at all.

The room had a mold-like smell, so my mom couldn't stay there. We'd already paid, and instead of refunding me, the person covering for the owner charged me twice for that same room. Dealing with my financial institution over it was a nightmare. We didn't stay at all, but the motel kept insisting they should be paid and fought hard about it. The situation was eventually resolved in my favor, though all that hassle definitely wasn't worth it.

There was no way to lock the door, and they wouldn't refund me. The floor was dirty, the microwave was broken, and the TV didn't work. The shower kept switching between cold and briefly warm, while the lights flickered like there might be a short somewhere.

The person at the desk was friendly, and I really liked the pine planks on the walls with their natural finish. The beds were comfortable enough, though smaller than I expected. Streetlight kept coming into the room because I couldn't block it properly, so it was pretty bright and harder to fall asleep. The bathroom could use some attention, especially the big patches in the tub.

The staff were really nice and accommodating, and being able to bring our pets was a bonus. We didn't get one of the remodeled rooms, even though some have been updated. It's an older motel with new owners, and we'll come back next year for another pheasant hunt. If small towns are your thing, stop in Kimball,SD. The city looks rundown, but the people are friendly and there's a great little place to get breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The food is yummy!
