The Wiltwyck

We needed somewhere at the last minute on a road trip and booked a room at The Wiltwyck Inn. The website made it look sweet, and it was so close to downtown Kingston. It lived up to that promise. We actually had two rooms, a charming sitting room and a bedroom with a private bathroom. The bed was so comfortable, and the bathroom was beautiful, spotless, and stocked with fluffy towels. In the morning, it was lovely to see the light coming through the windows from the sitting room through the French door. I'd definitely stay again.

The location of The Wiltwyck was perfect for my Kingston conference, and the website made the hotel look beautiful. I booked it as a small luxury, but the day before I was due to leave, my father had a medical emergency and I had to cancel at the last minute. I understood the no-refund policy, but asked if I could move the reservation to another date. They said compensation was only possible if the room was rebooked. With the late cancellation and a midweek stay, that understandably didn't happen. I'd hoped a hotel of The Wiltwyck's caliber might show some flexibility or goodwill. Having to pay the $600 charge on top of the unexpected costs of my father's hospitalization added stress to an already difficult time. I won't book there again.

We got a room at the guesthouse for a last-minute visit to Kingston, and felt lucky it was available. This beautiful, cozy historic house has been modernized in small ways while keeping its charm and character. The hosts have furnished the rooms so you have what you need to feel at home. We were on the second floor and managed the stairs with our bags, but keep them in mind if you have accessibility restrictions. The hosts are there for questions, then leave you to enjoy the house and neighborhood on your own. Thanks again for the stay.

I spent a night here on my own and could truly feel how kind the innkeeper couple are. There are so few honest, ungreedy businesses left these days. I felt lucky to stay here and wish them all the best!
