The closet door was completely off its hinges and nearly fell on me while I was moving it. Luckily, my partner caught it. We’d already unpacked and were resting after arriving past 1 a.m., so when I called downstairs I said moving rooms would be too much. Quan apologized and said he’d submit a work order for someone to fix it between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Later, another desk employee told me it was on the list, but it was never repaired. That room shouldn’t have been rented out with the door like that. There was also hardly any soap, though staff helped with that, and there was something hanging from the ceiling in the corner. The breakfast ladies were especially pleasant, and the food was nice and hot. As a Hilton Honors member, I do expect better attention to these room details. Hopefully they get sorted out.

The check-in employee was super nice, and that was the only good part of our stay. This was the worst Hilton property we’ve stayed at. Don’t expect the cleanliness or comfort you’d get at other Hilton locations.

After midnight, I couldn’t get through the front door because of the security lock. The desk employee was on a phone call and didn’t want to hang up, so she yelled, “It’s open.” Then she asked for my ID. She didn’t mention my Diamond membership, ask whether I’d stayed before, or explain where the elevator was. The room was worse: hairs in the sink, a broken stopper that kept the water from draining, and a peppermint in the bed, with another one falling from the comforter onto the floor. It was so late that I didn’t go elsewhere, but I couldn’t sleep under the covers because I didn’t feel they were clean or safe. The room also smelled like moldy carpet, and one elevator seemed to be barely hanging from a cable, so I took the stairs, even though they led outside. At 5 a.m. I got a text asking how the visit was and if I needed anything. I told the morning desk employee about everything; she said she’d tell the manager. I didn’t think I should have to pay for the stay. The manager didn’t call me, but had an employee call to say I’d get 10,000 points. I’ll never stay there again, and I’ll tell people I know to avoid it. Nasty!

Usually my stays here have been okay, but this time I found a candy wrapper right in the middle of the room floor. It’s disappointing to see so many cleanliness complaints about a Hilton property. Kinston doesn’t have many lodging options, but I might go back to the Holiday Inn. Hilton points may not be worth it anymore.

The staff and service were great, but the room needs a serious cleaning, especially the bathroom. The bathroom is tiny, and the bed seemed and felt old. Even with the temperature turned down, the room felt humid and smelled old. This place really needs an upgrade.
