The one thing in its favor is being right across from some great skiing. Otherwise, I’d give it one star. The condo was dirty: there were dishes left in the dishwasher, dirty ones in the cupboards, and a used coffee filter in the maker. It felt untouched for 30 years and was falling apart. A strong, awful musty smell in the hallway seeped into the unit. The TV was very old with no streaming options, the Wi-Fi was unreliable and slow, and only one of the kitchen’s four lights worked. Parking was a mess. My pass expired at 11 when I checked out, so I had to get up early on my last morning to move the car before general parking filled up. The garage entrance has a bar at 6'6", though most spaces looked like they could fit taller vehicles. Someone had parked a vehicle over 7' by scraping its roof box on the bars. My car was a reasonable 6' 9" with its roof box, but wouldn’t fit, so I parked outside and had to dig it out in the morning. That wipes out any benefit of staying in Kirkwood. For dinner there are only two choices. One requires a drive, so I can’t comment on it; the other is an overpriced, crowded, noisy bar with bad food. It might suit some people, but it wasn’t good for traveling as a family. You’d be better off staying in South Lake Tahoe and driving over in the morning. The accommodations there are much better and cost substantially less.

We booked through Vail Resorts’ 96 hour sale and enjoyed the studio and skiing at Kirkwood. Unit 110A in building 4 was incredibly convenient: lift #6 was across the street, and our favorite, Cornice Grill, was next door. The room had everything we needed, including a microwave, fridge, coffee maker, iron, and ironing board. The front desk also gave us plenty of coffee. Our room had no view because of all the snow in 2018/2019! Parking for standard rooms is outside, despite the underground garage. We got a great spot right by the entrance, and the snow didn’t bury our car, so that worked out. The buildings are quite old, and even the remodels look dated, which is why I’m giving it three stars. Still, I highly recommend it and we’ll be back. I hope we get this unit again. I’m not sure how Kirkwood Resorts assigns rooms, but I might ask for this one.

Even with a permit to park there, they’ll put a sticker on your car without warning, and it can’t be removed. I’d call if there were an office to reach.

The resort location is central, and the place is clean. A nice spot to stay any time of year.
