Hampton Inn St. Louis Sunset Hills

The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable, but the hotel felt dated and was under construction during our 7/28-7/31 stay. I wasn't sure what renovations were happening, and signs said work had stopped because of fire code issues. The pool was open, but families with kids had to go back to the room to use the bathroom since the downstairs one was out of service. One elevator seemed out of service too, and only the first-floor ice machine worked. The carpet looked very dirty and dingy throughout. Breakfast left a lot to be desired, though it was serviceable. The stay was fine, but that's about all I can say.

The pool and hot tub were perfect, and being near the lobby turned out not to be noisy at all, though we had worried it might be. Our room was very nice, clean, and comfortable. The bathroom had been retrofitted for handicap access, which it was, but the shower didn't drain properly and we went through a lot of towels. That's not really a problem, just be careful if you get room 103.

The hot water in our shower wasn't working at first, but maintenance fixed it quickly and nothing else went wrong. The hotel was clean, and breakfast was average, with great coffee. Staff were very friendly and helpful when the kids lost multiple room keys.

I've been staying at this Hampton Inn every year for the past 10 years, and I have to be honest, it's going downhill. The staff have always been friendly and courteous, and I do appreciate the free breakfast. But the rooms are badly dated and really need remodeling. On my last stay, in August 2017, the toilet kept running and the bathtub drained very slowly. Worse, the room wasn't very clean, yet it cost $140 a night. There aren't many hotels in the general area, though. To get to a Marriott, such as a Courtyard, you have to drive five miles.
