Ramada Kittery

The staff are great, always around to answer questions and share information. This is a good hotel for an interstate stopover, and I'll stay again when I'm next in the area. The property is in good general repair and well maintained, though the rooms and interior could use some updating. I didn't use the pool, but saw other guests using it and they seemed to enjoy it.

The staff were friendly, and the location was good. But the rooms are dated and poorly maintained. The drop ceiling tiles are coming apart, the wallpaper has grime on it, and there's a lot of dust. The room smelled bad as soon as I walked in. The beds and pillows weren't comfortable, and several amenities were out of order. The pool was clean, but tiles have fallen off and left rough edges that could injure someone. I'd probably choose a different hotel next time I visit.

The coin-operated laundry room was a lifesaver during my nine-day stay at the Kittery Ramada. Nothing fancy, just one washer and dryer, but the machines were affordable. The whole visit was stress free. My room, including the rug and bathroom, was very clean, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and the staff were all friendly. I highly recommend the place.

The room itself seemed clean, the bed was comfortable, and the heat, hot water, refrigerator, and microwave all worked fine. Still, a lot of little things were broken or inconvenient. The TV cable was just stuck into the back, so moving the TV knocked it loose. Cable wasn't important to me, so I didn't report it. A broken table lamp leaned in the corner but worked as long as it wasn't moved. The sink drained slowly, the toilet lever had to be held down for a couple seconds to flush fully, and water collected in a soft, low spot in the tub. On my last day the breaker for the coffee pot and desk lamp apparently tripped, but I didn't report that either. I arrived right at check-in time to find no one at the desk. I rang the bell, and an attendant came within about five minutes. The room type I'd requested wasn't available. I accepted another one because I'd just driven 10 hours. The hotel is very dated, and there was an odor in the common areas, though I didn't notice it in my room. The website should explain that the indoor pool and sauna are seasonal and closed for several months. I didn't see that coming, since you'd think an indoor pool would be open from fall through spring. It should also remove the fitness room listing. I can't imagine anyone working out there: there's no decent equipment, and I wouldn't touch or lie on the floor to exercise. It looked like a bunch of yard sale stuff. The WiFi signal wasn't strong enough for streaming, though it did support video calls and might be better elsewhere in the building. Breakfast started at 6:30, which is useless for many people working at the ship yard whose day starts at 6:00. There really wasn't much to choose from: sugary cereal and pastries, miniature muffins full of preservatives, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, waffle makers, and I think English muffins. No fruit, meat, or anything fresh. The coffee was good. My room was never serviced for the whole stay. No trash was taken out, no fresh towels, nothing. I saw the housekeeper on two days and got coffee packages from her, but that was it. I only saw someone at the front desk on the morning I checked out. They didn't acknowledge me, and I didn't say anything either. As others have said, you get what you pay for. If you just need somewhere to shower and sleep, it's probably good enough, but I would never stay here with my family. The website needs a more truthful description, and the place could use some investment and effort to improve.
