Kodiak Compass Suites

The rooms were nice and the location was convenient, but the customer service was beyond awful. My baby spiked a fever, and my husband went to ask the front desk for children’s Tylenol. He knocked and called out, but nobody answered. An hour later he tried again. The employee came out still rubbing their eyes, just waking up, and was extremely rude. The next day my husband made small talk while passing by, joking that the stairs were wearing him out. The employee snapped, “well take the elevator then.” I went to the desk to ask for the manager or a complaint form. When asked why, I said the employee had been rude and their employer should know how guests were being treated. They immediately raised their voice and threatened to have me kicked out. I told them to do it, since I hadn’t done anything wrong. I’ll tell friends and family not to spend their money here, given this hostile treatment from an employee who seemed to think they were above the law.

The staff were great, and the property and rooms felt modern. There are USB ports by the bed, and the kitchenette had an apartment-size fridge, enough dining items, and a dishwasher. Most places are close by, and anything beyond walking distance is a short drive. Cabs are reasonable, about $10-$15 to most parts of the island. A couple things let it down. The bathroom setup shown in the photos felt tacky, like guests were being asked to accept a campground experience in the loo. I mentioned it at the desk and was told Corporate hadn’t responded to their requests. The TV picture was also very blurry, like old analog programming. I’d hoped to watch Thursday night NFL. Happy traveling.

We were stranded when our hunting flight out was canceled, so our group stayed here. The place is new, clean, roomy, and has a crisp, modern feel. It’ll be our go-to from now on.

The noise was miserable. Our neighbors were loud last night, and since there was no manager at the hotel on the weekend, we had to switch rooms. That helped, but my husband got only a couple hours of sleep. One of the flight stewards may not have slept at all, and I feel bad for flight crews who have to stay here. It’s a new hotel, but seems very poorly built, with no sound barriers. There was construction at the hotel, though luckily none was happening during our last 24 hours. UGH! I’m usually a positive reviewer and give high ratings.
