Hotel Barkley

We needed somewhere at the last minute, and this worked well. The building is older, but our room was clean and comfortable, which was enough for us. The heating and AC unit looked really old and dusty, so we switched it off. That was fine in early spring.

Our room was very clean, and the older building is well maintained. The staff were helpful, and they kindly let us park our camper near the room since the hotel wasn’t full. We booked in a hurry when the weather got too cold for staying in the camper. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again if we needed to.

We had a large, clean room with a comfy bed and a big TV, and the recent updates gave it a cheerful feel. The service was warm, the lobby had nice holiday decorations, and the location had what we needed: a nearby steakhouse with delicious food, a 24-hour diner with an amazing breakfast, plus gas and convenience stores close by. My one suggestion is to bring back in-room coffee makers. I was told they’re looking at re-adding them after they were removed during the pandemic, as part of the recent turnover and rebrand. It made for a terrific winter weekend in Kentucky, and with the improvements underway, this place should be on your top five for the lake area.

The rooms were spacious and clean, the price was good, and it was convenient to walk to things nearby. We felt safe and had little to no noise trouble. The only snag was the internet, which kept dropping in and out at random. I mentioned it at the front desk and got, “yeah it does that.” Otherwise, it was a great stay, and I’d come back.
