Hotel Planter

We enjoyed winding down in the courtyard in the evenings. The hotel is small and fits the quaint town; there's no elevator, but the staff were very helpful. There isn't air conditioning, though ceiling fans are provided. We left a window open, and the street stayed quiet at night.

The shower in our room kept dripping, no matter how tightly we turned the faucet off. I was also disappointed by how the courtyard was used. We chose this classic hotel partly because its website presented the courtyard as private for guests, and a sign there said the same. But the sweet shoppe downstairs also sells pizza and other food, and people coming in from the street were regularly invited to eat and hang out in the courtyard. There wasn't much privacy, and the steady stream of shop customers took away from the time we spent relaxing there. The hotel says it welcomes guests aged 13 and up, yet the courtyard was often full of children, some unattended, because of the food business. That felt misleading in the advertising. The location in the historic heart of La Conner, WA was lovely, the bed was very comfortable, and much of the hotel was as advertised.

Street parking took some patience. After going out on a Saturday afternoon, I circled three times before finding a space again, and the lot by the water next to the building was too expensive for me. The room was freezing when I arrived, despite the heat being on. I turned both the room heater and bathroom heater all the way up, and it took almost two hours to get comfortable. After that, I had no trouble. It would help if staff turned the heat up sooner before guests arrive. There is no hotel parking. Even with those hassles, I enjoyed my getaway at Hotel Planter and plan to return. The historic building has a lovely vintage feel, and everything was clean and well cared for. The bed was very tall for me at 5'10, but comfortable, with plenty of pillows that weren't old or sunken.

Such a sweet, distinctive hotel, right in the middle of town. We could walk to everything, including the waterfront. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. A lovely stay.
