Hyland Motel

The room was clean, but nobody told us there'd be no housekeeping. We only got very small towels, and one coffee with two paper cups for a three-night booking. Nothing else was offered, and the office staff could use better people skills.

Getting into the room took until 6:30 PM because the cleaning staff hadn't shown up and weren't expected until late. I'd paid for a king disabled room but was given a regular queen instead. The staff were hit and miss, usually for the worse. The room wasn't clean, so I was glad I always sanitize a room myself after checking in. The pillows were lumpy, the bed uncomfortable, and I could hear people talking through the wall. The toilet had a big chip in its base and rocked when you sat on it. The next day, the cleaning lady wouldn't collect the garbage even though I'd left it outside in the walkway. They expected guests to carry it to the dumpster. One guest was coughing every two minutes, so I don't know if they had COVID. Long story short, don't go here. There are no redeeming qualities.

If you want personal service from the owner instead of the busy feel of a big hotel chain, this is where I'd go. The woman who works there is always helpful and smiling. She's married. The place is small, but the rooms are large.

We needed a room at the last minute and this was the last one available, so we went with it despite there being so many mirrors. Check-in was uneventful and the staff were cordial. For a one-night stay it was tolerable, though my wife's pillow had long black hairs on it and we were short one bath towel.
